Heflin 'judge' acts like good Republican

too funny ...calling an election fraud spade an election fraud spade.

AUSTIN — Former Republican State Rep. Talmadge Heflin has a problem in his quest to overturn the election he lost by 33 votes to Democrat newcomer Hubert Vo.

The most important man standing between him and what he wants is acting like a good Republican judge.

In lawsuits, Republican judges tend to favor the defense, and Heflin is very much the plaintiff in this case.

Rep. Will Hartnett has the credentials. He's a North Dallas Republican, a lawyer, the son of and nephew of lawyers, the brother of four lawyers and chairman of the House Judicial Affairs Committee. He was vice chairman for eight years.

House Speaker Tom Craddick appointed him "master" to oversee Heflin's challenge of the election. After a hearing that lasted all day and late into the night Thursday and was expected to drone on today, Hartnett will make a recommendation to a special committee Craddick appointed. The matter will then go to the full House for a vote.
