7. Urge Pierce County to extend health care to domestic partners

On Tuesday Dec. 4 at 5 p.m., the Pierce County council will consider an ordinance to extend to domestic partners the health care coverage and other benefits that county employees already receive,. This is a big step because it picks up where the Legislature left off last year on domestic partnerships. The meeting will take place at South Park Community Center, 4851 S. Tacoma Way. Take Action

Thurston, Snohomish, King, Spokane counties and the state of Washington all offer these benefits to their employees. Washington state is realizing that domestic partner benefits help recruit and retain the best and brightest employees.

County employees help keep our community booming. It is important that they know their partners and families are well taken care of in the event of sickness or accident. This can be done by giving them benefits such as medical, dental, vision, bereavement leave, sick leave and the other benefits that make up a county employee's compensation package.

Please take the time to write to the county council and let them know how important it is that everyone receive the same benefits. If you can, attend the council meeting so that they are aware of the impact this would have on the county. Email the Pierce County Council Now
