18. Pushing the myth that the Public Option "dead"
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 08:47 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
has clearly worked in the Pubs' favor and against Obama and while it is true that Obama hasn't exactly declared that he would veto any legislation that doesn't include a PO and Sebelius "muddied" the water with her comments a couple of weeks ago, there does not appear to be any definitive non-MSM, non-pundit, non-Kent Conrad evidence that Obama no longer wants the PO and that it is, in fact, DOA in Congress and, as a result of Kennedy's passing, it may (probably will) gain additional traction provided we keep the heat turned up on Congress to pass legislation including a public option.
Distorting and taking comments out of context, as the MSM seems to do with relish at the behest of their Republican-supporting corporate masters, has, judging from the firestorm that has once again erupted here at DU, once again succeeding in turning us against each other and on Obama while the Republicans have been free to keep hammering away at HCR with more and more lies, distortions, etc.
While it's been easy to become discouraged at the coverage of town hall meeting disruptors, the lies and distortions regarding HCR, as well the performance of the Blue Dogs, we should remember that there isn't much substantive that can happen while Congress is on recess and that they will be back to work right after Labor Day when the REAL work can begin and we can finally get something done. That's when I believe that Obama will finally unleash his "arsenal" and really start pushing for something to get done WITH a PO. With any luck, we will be as successful with this as we were with helping get Obama elected as POTUS last year despite the uphill battle he faced.
