U.S. presidents are above the law

Richard Nixon has said so himself: if the president does something, it's never illegal. Never was a U.S. president prosecuted for crimes we normally prosecute other people. Truman could commit genocide against the Japanese without anyone batting an eye. Eisenhower could overthrow a democratically elected government and install a dictator in Iran without anyone even questioning it. It was too late to prosecute Kennedy about the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Johnson got away with lying a country into war (sounds familiar?) in Vietnam. Nixon had to resign over Watergate, but was pardoned, let alone prosecuted over the bloodshed he ordered in Chile, Laos and Cambodia. Reagan's atrocities in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Grenada and Iran-Contra got him the status of one of the most popular presidents. Clinton ran an 'extraordinary rendition' program for which he was never punished and neither for his weekly bombings of Iraq, which took an estimated 500,000 lives. And then George W. Bush... well, do I really have to list all his crimes once again?
