"If someone isn't pretty much grown up and accomplished by age 27, then he or she is not likely to be by age 40, either."

That's pretty, well, judgemental, imho.

Someone might survived hell in a handbasket, and just be starting to heal from it by age 27.

I know by age 27, back in the late 70s recession, I'd spent several years nearly homeless, in therapy and in clinical suicidal depression. I was nearly institutionalized.

10 years later I was 6 years into my 1st good job -- the first decent opportunity to come my way and I jumped for it.

By age 41, I'd been promoted to a 6 figure salary. But I suppose that doesn't count, in your book since it took me until 41.

At 47 I was being considered for a top position in my field. The equivalent of a speechwriter for president or prime minister of a lesser country, but still, top of my profession. Had high tech not crashed when it did, I might have been selected and still be there...

But again, way past the age when someone is capable of actually accomplishing anything worthwhile, according to your view. Sheesh!
