Today Lincoln Davis D TN condemned the remarks of Fred Hobbs....

who the other day made a shocking statement after watching too much Fox News.

Fred Hobbs said that Davis might not be endorsing Obama because he might have terrorist ties...though it was not known for certain.

..."Fred Hobbs, a state Democratic Party Executive Committee member representing part of Davis district, said he understands why Davis is not endorsing Obama and is skeptical of the Illinois senator himself.

Maybe the same reason I dont want to I dont exactly approve of a lot of the things he stands for and Im not sure we know enough about him, Hobbs said when asked why he thought Davis wasnt endorsing Obama. Hes got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.

Davis was not made available for comment.

Congressman Davis's chief of staff, Beecher Frasier, said a similar thing.

His chief of staff, Beecher Frasier, said he doesnt know for sure if Obama is terrorist connected but he assumes hes not.

Well, finally today Congressman Davis spoke out against those words.

Lincoln Davis condemns Dem. officials terrorist allegation against Obama

U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis condemned today comments from a state Democratic Party executive committee member alleging that Sen. Barack Obama was terrorist connected.

Last week, Fred Hobbs, a state Democratic Party executive committee member, ignited a firestorm for alleging that the Democrats presumptive presidential nominee was terrorist connected.

The comments, which were first reported in The City Paper, were made in a story relating to Davis (D-Pall Mall), his Fourth Congressional District and his lack of an endorsement of Obama.

This afternoon, Davis, who had remained silent on Hobbs comments, condemned them.

Mr. Hobbs is neither a constituent, close friend nor political ally of mine, Davis said in a statement issued from his congressional office. His statements were wrong, outrageous and unacceptable.

From the link above, Hobb's apology:

apologize if my remarks in any way hurt any of our great Democratic candidates, including Sen. Obama, Hobbs wrote of the presumptive party nominee. Also, I apologize if my comments embarrassed our state or my friends at the Tennessee Democratic Party.

I was not as well prepared as I should have been when speaking with reporters, and I should have taken more time to research Sen. Obama's positions. My comments did reflect questions I had after what I had seen reported on Fox News, but I should have taken some time to check the accuracy of what I saw on television before speaking publicly. My statement that Sen. Obama may be terrorist-connected was incorrect, and I apologize for making it."

Guess that will teach Hobbs to trust Fox News.
