I like reading Hunter Thompson as well, but having seen friends spend some of their long years drug sotted, I don't exactly trust his analysis of the situation.

AND I was there. And Hubert Humphrey is spelled with an "e": either you're in too much of a hurry, or maybe you need to re-read before you post. It was the PARTY ELITES, not Humphrey who tried to pull a fast one, mainly because they were afraid McGovern couldn't pull the base. Which I must admit, although I worked long and hard for him, he didn't.

The party was not "split" by Humphrey: it was split by WALLACE.
