However, I think we're in a transitional phase. The media no longer filters the information the same way they used too. The younger forward youtube links to their parents & grandparents which helps put things in context.

I don't see that media is protecting Obama (or Clinton). The endless Wright loop is evidence Obama is not a golden child by any means.

I think the media wants to drag this primary battle to the bitter end. It's good for their ratings. A brokered convention would be their dream, the ratings would go through the roof.

That said, I also don't think Obama planned for those comments to leave that San Francisco fundraiser. But they did. He's a smart person, comfortable in his own skin, so he's able to respond in a calm and rational manner. Which in turn saves him from too much damage.
