You don't tell angry people they aren't angry. It just makes them more angry and directs that anger at you.

If Obama had backed away from what he said, yes, you would be right. Instead he's pivoting in a way that makes Clinton and McCain look out of touch and foolish. It's the same thing he did in the Rev. Wright "situation". A couple of days afterwards he was being praised for making one of the most important speeches on race by a presidential candidate ever. The fake outrage by his opponents is a gift to Obama. Don't take my word for it though. Just watch the news cycle for the next week and you'll see.
