So people end up, you know, voting on issues like guns, and are they going to have the right to bear arms.

This is 100% true. The 2nd Amendment is extremely important to many people, including some people on this board.

They vote on issues like gay marriage.

Also 100% true. This is a deep concern (for or against) for many voters on both sides.

And they take refuge in their faith and their community and their families and things they can count on. But they dont believe they can count on Washington.

To me, he is saying that faith, community, and families are more reliable than the U.S. government. This stance should not offend too many people.
