Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, friends, Romans, countrymen and Rethuglicans--we are all gathered here for the fifth anniversary edition of the DU Rocknation/LBN "You Call this NEWS?" AWARDS!
:applause:

These days, DU finds itself both united and divided by its search for that Democratic presidential candidate who can do the best job of defeating the Republicans and restoring our real system of government and way of life. As a result, DU hasn't been a fun place lately. But it's sure been fun watching the pollsters and pundits struggling to explain why their predictions for the Iowa primary were so far off target. And the most recent debates were fun, too--the four Dem candidates seemed dignified and civilized for the most part while the Repubs came across as rhetoric-infested shills at best and just plain nuts at worst.

What made them fun? The fact that we at DU know better. And why do we know better? Because we know better than to rely on the corporate media. After my first two years at DU, I had learned enough to start noticing that certain Late Breaking News posts-well, just weren't really late breaking news. Either their subject matter had been a subject of discussion at DU months earlier, their headlines were hilariously redundant, or (worst of all) both. I began to respond to such stories by posting, "You call this NEWS?" And the rest is history.

But that's enough of blowing my own horn--now it's time for me to blow you!

Congratulations, well done, and once again, thanks to all the DUers who make these threads--and DU itself--possible. Now more than ever, the future of our country depends on our eternal vigilance. And before I unlock the banquet room doors, I'd like to remind everyone that neither Rocknation nor DU are sponsors of the after-party. Last year, I was billed for untangling underwear from the chandelier and for hauling a Harley-Davidson out of the swimming pool!
