1. Yours is a very thoughtful post indeed
The media voraciously eats up tragedy--it is their bread and butter--bring it on. And why? Because they get viewers--millions and millions of viewers who as they leisurely sup before the t.v. set after a gruelling day's work can see that they're not so bad off after all. And then come the prayers--lots and lots of prayers which to my mind are totally meaningless, for as tragic was the Amish slaughter, millions around the world are experiencing equally unspeakable acts of depravity. Why would a god choose to answer the millions of American prayers for the unfortunate Amish whilst so many of these same millions insist on the right to own horrific instruments of death. Why would a god choose to answer American prayers for a relative few while ignoring the plight of millions? We are a properly skewed society in which we hold a belief in god while denying on an everyday level the very things he presumably was and would be against. It makes absolutely no sense. Belief in a god juxtaposed to a belief in violence (manifested in t.v., movies, games, books, language, and laws which only serve to promote violence) makes no sense. Unless the people begin to practice what it is that they preach, things are only going to get worse. Hunker down, "it's going to be a bumpy ride."
