yes, as of this writing, "Jeff" actually intends to run for re-election:

Lots more solid entertainment at the above link. And yes, though I've been away from N.O. these past 15 years, I have a good idea who'd be just the man to run for the seat. Some of you might not love his politics, which were kind of proto-DLC, but his ethics haven't been called into question in twelve years as a judge down there.
