If people can rally and organize enough new folks to take the election, I think that's a pretty good sign they're going to be motivated and organized enough to stay pretty active.
In general, that hasn't been my experience. More typically, people get very excited and then fade away. However, the good news is that if you're right, Deaners will gain control of a large chunk of the party hierarchy over the next few years. And if you aren't, they won't.

And the system will encourage and reward them if they do - which is exactly how it should be.
