I seriously doubt McCain would have been able to get a bill passed that requires us to buy private insurance policies from the very crooks who've been cheating us for years and call it "reform". Remember, Obama said more than once that we needed a public option to "keep them (the insurance companies) honest". So he admitted they were crooked but, in the end had no problem selling us out to them.

No, we would not have gotten meaningful financial reform from McCain - but we didn't get it from Obama either.

And, I don't recall Bush deciding we needed a "payroll tax holiday" that, for the first time, made Social Security somewhat dependent on the general revenue and I don't recall Bush putting Social Security on the table when it came time to raise the debt ceiling or pass a budget.

Just as Clinton was needed to "reform" welfare and sell out the unions with NAFTA, so Obama is needed to continue that work.
