"One aspect of the assassination that always intrigued me was the choice of the assassin/s to kill JFK so publicly. There was something especially gratuitous about it.
Seeing the fondness for shock and awe and its utility in seizing control of a population has answered that question I think."

I think it was a message to future presidents, "this is what can happen to you."

Like after the president gains office they sit him down and show him some footage of the Kennedy killing from an angle never before seen by the public, that shows him clearly being shot from the front. That maybe even shows one of the other shooters.

and then they ask the new president "any questions?"
