There is just no fucking way that the current generations of scientists,
industrialists and politicians can get this right. Unfortunately, the
penalty for trying it but getting it wrong is far worse than letting
nature do the cleanup by itself (including human near-extinction).

There is no opportunity to be "learning as you go along" because there
simply isn't a "reset button" to allow you to restore from backup and
try again.

I put supporters of option #1 in the same camp as dominionists, rapture
preachers and other fanatical suicide/murder merchants.
