6. Colin Meloy.
Singer/Songwriter of the alt-folk balladeers The Decemberists and the alt-country quartet Tarkio. Meloy has one of the most distinct voices in music today but is more renowned for his wordplay and vocabulary, intricate story-telling and the randomness of his references. ("Neopolitan Bridesmaid" may be the only country song ever written to reference Camus, the essentialist theory of free will and anti-miscegenation laws) Here is an interview he did in promotion of his second-to-most-recent interview, The Hazards of Love.
