I admit that I was slow to accept Spongebob, in large measure because I wrongly perceived that it was the stylistic heir to Ren & Stimpy's endless onslaught of vomit, snot, and shit jokes. I'm pleased to discover that Spongebob himself is a much more benevolent character, and the series is far more witty than I would have imagined.

Having said all that, the longer format episode Atlantis Squarepantis features David Bowie as the voice of Lord Royal Highness, the de facto ruler of current-day Atlantis. He looks like he and Jeremy from The Yellow Submarine could have gotten along very well, incidentally.

I've seen David Bowie in over a dozen screen performances, and I have to say that he seems to be enjoying himself more thoroughly as the voice of LRH than as any other role he's played, thought I really liked him as Pontius Pilate in The Last Temptation of Christ.

If you haven't seen this episode of Spongebob Squarepants, I recommend that you check it out at your earliest opportunity. If you have Comcast, it's likely available via the OnDemand service right now.
