47. Don't bother -
if you like good Chinese food, Peking is NOT the place for you. It got a lot of publicity because Poppy Bush liked it (their windows are still bulletproof glass), but their food has rotted away and it is just terrible.

You'd do a whole lot better to go to Full Kee at Bailey's Crossroads, just a bit east of Culmore, same side of Leesburg Pike, where the Trader Joe's is. At the far end of that strip mall is a place called Full Kee. VERY downscale, not glamorous or decorated at all, but you can get some of the BEST Hong Kong cuisine imaginable in the DC area. Skip the traditional "Chinese" menu, with Kung Pao Chicken and that stuff, and check out the authentic Hong Kong menu.

You'll see stuff that might freak you out, but you'll also see their casseroles and noodles dishes that are unbelievably good. Also, check out - no joke - their chow mein. You have never had it like this - authentic and wonderful Hong Kong style.

But, Peking Gourmet? Forget it ................

Also, right across the road from Full Kee (and Trader Joe's) is a Thai place called Duangrat. It's phenomenal. There's also a smaller place associated with Duangrat's, about half-a-block west (you can walk it) called Rabieng. Amazing peasant food. AND, next door to that is their Thai market. I get all my Thai foodstuffs there, and you cannot beat their prices. /
