2. I woke up particularly early that day, which was odd for me.
I was in 11th grade and I was definitely one of those teenagers who practically had to be dragged out of bed in the morning.

But I woke up at around 5 a.m. or so that morning and, because I couldn't go back to sleep, I turned on my radio and found A Day in the Life playing...one of my favorite Beatles songs. I lay there listening to it in the dark and, as the final crashing chord faded, the DJ somberly announced that Lennon had been murdered.

I was in a daze for the rest of the day and, like you, it took a long time for me to fully get over that shock. I don't idolize Lennon...he was a flawed man, certainly; but he and his music had a profoundly positive impact on my life that continues to reverberate even today. In that sense, he lives on, I guess. Still, it would've been nice to have him around a bit longer.
