17. It was about an hour too short.
I'm not going to blame the director. This was clearly a case of too many cooks spoiling the soup. This was a movie made by committee.

If they had far less exposition, and instead relied on actual dialogue and the audiences imagination, they wouldn't have squandered the opportunity.

This film had much the same faults as Lynch's Dune, a mess of a film made of an exceptional book.
