22. My nightmare using a lease and harness
Used the harness and lease only once. Back in the early 60's. Husband stationed in Key West Florida.
He was out to sea (Submariner) Two babies 16 months apart. No where on the Island were shopping
carts used. Had what was called a cuddle seat for the baby. Plastic carry thingie. Couldn't afford a
stroller. Neighbor gave me a baby harness. Decided to use it. Every time I would let my oldest son's
hand go he would take off.So here I'm in the grocery store. Kid is harnessed like a dog.

Woman walks by and says, that is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I whirl around to give her
a piece of my mind. Here is my son crawling on all fours like a dog! I try to stand him up. He would not stand. Pulled up on the lease and he just hung there. He would not let me take his hand. Yelling at the top of his lungs. NO! NO! NO! Swear to God the crowd was so huge, think they came from all over the
Island to watch the show. Tried to take the lease off. Danged kid was fighting me like a wild animal.

So what else could I do. Smiled at everyone and told them to have a nice day. Walked out the store with my son, crawling on all fours, in his beloved harness. Got in the car and cried like a baby.

Got home took the damn thing off him. Kid spent the rest of the day, trying to get it back on.

Stupid kid harness. I'm sixty four and it seems like only yesterday that happened.
