Man Tries To Shoot Auto Mechanic Over $2,300 Repair Bill

Highland – An irate customer faces a charge of attempted murder after he tried to shoot a garage owner yesterday over a disputed $2300 car repair.

Roger J. Malcolm, 68, of New Paltz is in the Ulster County Jail charges of attempted murder, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

Lloyd Police said Malcolm entered Felleman Automotive on Route 9W about 3:30 p.m. with a rifle. He pointed the gun at the garage owner, John Felleman, and pulled the trigger.

The gun misfired.

As Malcolm tried to reload, Felleman, 55, jumped him. Malcolm slammed the rifle in Felleman’s face, leaving a gash over Felleman’s left eye, but Felleman was still able to wrestle Malcolm to the ground while a coworker called police.
