My father is dying tonight.

He had a massive stroke, with heart failure and kidney failure.

Turns out his Advanced Directive indicates he wants ALL measures withheld. No oxygen, IV fluids, food, or medications. And now we are sitting vigil waiting for him to die.

I was shocked by his startling yet brave decision on how to go out. I'm just having a hard time respecting those wishes because they seem so brutal.
