16. I know what your going through.
Because of my spinal cord injury work was getting more difficult each day and my company was making things worse for me to force me to leave. I had been out for 4 months after my surgery and when I returned to work the atmosphere was very hostile. It was like they had a grudge against me for being out for so long.
They knew I had difficulty walking any distance and still insisted I take on new responsibilities that had me walking from one building to another that was a mile away. They would not even allow me to use the company vehicle to get there. They insisted that I walk, and when it was taking me longer and longer to get back and forth they reprimanded me and began the process to have me terminated.
I was walking back to my lab one day and I tripped and fell flat on my face on the concrete. I went back on disability and things just got worse, they fought me on everything, even trying to deny me my disability benefits. I wound up having to hire a lawyer and get a court order to reinstate my disability pay. But, I never quit, and never submitted a resignation. Once my short term disability benefits ended they fought me on my LTD which I paid for on my own with after tax dollars, they lost again. Just to make a long story short, I have not been back to work since then, it's been 7 years now. This country has gone back in time as far as workers rights.
I am so disgusted with the greed exhibited by so many companies these days. It's a sad sad time for our America.
You have my sympathy and I can empathize.
