copy C:\winnt\repair\system C:\winnt\system32\config <enter>

say "y" if asked to replace the file. Sounds like your hard drive is going bad. Look at your system log in "Event Viewer" for disk errors. Sorry Windows haterz but this issue probably arises from a hardware issue.

that should get you into the os with a recent copy of your system hive file.
