18. WHAT?!? no room for britney singing A Capella?
I've noticed that the voices on today's songs are"enhanced" - put into proper key and tone - by computer. And with that, you lose character, nuance, even creativity. Billy Holiday could barely keep a tune on some occasions, but her heart and soul went into the songs anyway.

Some of our very best rock and roll, blues and jazz, even that stuff some call music Bluesod? Bluehay? Blueweed? Bluelawn? whatever - was made unique and beautiful because of that interpretation.

Maybe that explains why I have not bought a CD in 10 yrs. Yeah, I down load stuff from iTunes, but it is mainly older stuff that still sounds better.

I just finished a pretty good mystery in which the detective got an iPod from spouse and was picking his 100 best songs (mainly Rock). the author's list was at the end. pretty good list, I have to admit. Nothing recent, nothing new.

I think music today is a symptom of what is wrong with society. In the 60s music both drove and reflected life's progress. War protests, love, revolution - it lived and breathed in the art and sounds.

TOday's kids are more jaded. I see the youth of the 60s still being the driving force in peace movements, democratic pushes and in the forefront of telling the world just how evil Bush is. I do not see today's youth taking a lead. Too much TV, MTV, Logos (thank you Naomi - still a great book) framing and branding?
