I have to say coming out as an atheist was much more difficult. The only thing that made it possible is being an adult and having the tools to deal with negative reactions of others. When I was fat my family still loved and supported me. Telling some of them I did not believe in god threatened that relationship.

But of course I do have the option of keeping my mouth closed whereas a fat person can't hide like that. (I really did not mean that to be a joke or pun just couldn't think of another way to put that.) So that gives that situation a unique problem an atheist does not.

But then there is a special pain when you can't openly be who you are.
