80. Story about Maddux is inaccurate
My recollection is that Maddux wanted to stay with the Cubs, but the Cubs did not offer him anything close to what he deserved, after having won his first Cy Young award in 1992.

Maddux received a huge offer from the Yankees and nixed that, choosing to sign with the Braves instead for somewhat less.

The Cubs' inept management had decided that they didn't need Maddux and didn't make a serious effort to re-sign him.
