Nope, its not okay and if they sent out an email claiming Dean was better than Clark you can be sure we would scream like stuck pigs.

Absolutely.

On the other hand, the world being the way it is, we would probably try to find out just who actually sent out the email. One of my favority cartoons regarding the internet is the one where two dogs are talking, and one says, "the best thing is, on the net no one can tell that you're a dog."

I have an email list for a not-profit I was chairman of in NYC. I could easily go to a computer cafe and send out an email to everyone on that list claiming to be George Bush.

Even if the email came from the official state account there is no way of knowing for sure who actually sent it.

The point is, before you jump out the window, make sure the guy that yelled "fire" is telling the truth. It's a long way down otherwise.
