Some final words on Rush:
First, to all the Freepers visiting DU: The bottom line here is you've been listening to the rantings of a Stoner for at least the last five years now. And if you voted for Bush on the recommendation of Rush, then you got a President who came highly recommended by a Stoner, dudes. Which is about as good of an explanation of the Bush administrations lack of competence as any I can come up with.
Two, to fellow DUers: There is a big difference between personal and political compassion. On a personal level, I certainly hope Rush gets his act together. Addiction, to me, is God's way of teling you your full of shit, so I would like nothing more than for Rush to cleanse himself of the putrefying demons that give voice to his boastful and inane sophistry. And the moment he says: "My name is Rush. And I'm a drug addict. And almost everything I've been saying for the last twenty years has been a manifestation of my sickness," hey, he's my brother. But until then I must view him as a politcal enemy who is showing the true colors of his fundamental hypocricy, and the fundamental hypocrisy of any political movement predicated upon self-right-teousnes. Self-righteousness being defined to me by the ability to go through life thinking that your shit don't stink. That consumption doesn't cause waste. That those worse off than you are inferior to you. That you have no obligation to share your luck with others in need of luck rather than stopping to reflect upon a humbling notion like, "Therefore but for the Grace of God, go I." So until I hear some genuine humility from the Total Hypocrite, I think Rush deserves all the scorn that can be publically heaped upon him. (And remember, Rush has now established himself as one of the great hypocrites of all time. I mean, Bill Bennett, by comparison, was only exposed as the blowhard he is, but Rush, The Anti-Human Weakness, Law and Order guy, proved to be a craven pill popping addict and low level black market criminal.) Still, as deserving of scorn as he is, I must confess, that I would prefer that it be served with the elegance of wit rather than with just reactionary vile. Yet always remember this about Rush: Untill proven otherwise he's as much of an Asp as he is an Ass. And it's a good rule to remember in one's personal as well as political life: Forgive everyone, except those who think forgiveness is a weakness. Agreeing with another poster to this forum: He's done a lot of damage to this country that he needs to be held accountable for. And that's all I'll have to say about Rush until he completes or quits rehab. Oh, I'm off to see the Wizard, the Rehabiliting Wizard of Ox.
