World Affairs Book Club Discussion of Andrew Bacevich's "The New American Militarism"

In "The New American Militarism: How Americans Are Seduced by War," Andrew Bacevich argues that America is becoming a militaristic nation, increasingly relying on the military to solve international problems in place of diplomacy. He argues that it isn't only the Bush administration, but the American public in general, that romanticizes the military and identifies military power with national greatness. The World Affairs Book Club, which meets monthly at the Capitola Book Caf in Capitola, California, discussed Mr. Basevich's book at their August meeting.

Andrew Bacevich is the author of several books in addition to "The New American Militarism," including "American Empire: The Realities and Consequences of U.S. Diplomacy." He is a professor of international relations and Director of the Center for International Relations at Boston University.
