46. A friend and I were talking
We wondered why people at the convention center weren't organizing as the people in this story tried to do. (Not *blaming* them, just noting that it is human nature to organize... to *do* something)Many people CNN spoke to said they were former military and so had some idea of how to manage 'in the field' and improvising(not to mention many others capable of rising to lead in the crisis).... digging latrines - or at least something of the sort, creating specific areas for first aid, food distribution etc. We couldn't understand how people could be made to endure such squalor and neglect. Our conclusion was that they were not ALLOWED to help themselves or each other. It is heartbreaking. This story and others that have been posted seem to confirm what we thought. I can't believe that police or NG or whoever would actively stop or hinder these efforts. It is disgusting and I hope these stories are told far and wide.
