This incident is begging to mushroom in force into something alot bigger. A new socail movement perhaps spawned from the epicenter of power itself. A dusty ditch in Crawford claimed by a soccer Mom who has nothing to lose. Until others see that they now have literally nothing to lose there is no movement. Why did so many join hands with King in Selma? Because they had nothing to lose. They had mined the pits of their despair. And those that trekked with Ghandi, all skin, protruding bone and smashed cartilage? They marched for salt. They marched to put gruel on the table. They had seen the baseless bottom. They had no choice. Still here in Babylon we don't really suffer yet beyond our interminable indifference to life. Compassion is born out of tradgedy as it was for Sheehan. I don't think we will see a real movement yet until a defining event propels many thousands to join Cindy in the ditch. There is not enough tangible suffering yet to form a real movement. People still beleive they can effect change by mainlining Wolf Blitzer and hugging their monitors. The defining event in Vietnam was the Draft and the tear gassings at Berkeley and Columbia as well Kent State. Sadly, we await this generations defining event. I don't look forward to it but Cheney is a man of nefarious action. He will resume the offensive soon enough and that should be the catalyst to birth a real anti-war movement in my opinion. Remember he learned under Nixon and Nixon was forever escalating conflict. His Waterloo finally was the secret bombing of Cambodia. A not so secret joint nuclear bombing run with Israel over Teheran is quite possibly on the agenda. What is afterall all the coming and going at Crawford about? Why has Cheney asked STRATCOM to draw up contingency plans for nuking Iran in the event of another 9?11? These guys want to move on Iran no question about it. They will stage a domestic tradgedy if they have to and declare Martial Law and roundups of dissidents if they need to in order to further consolidate power and divert mass attention. I suspect, though no one can say, that this fall may be a tipping point. I hope I am wrong.
