40. "Understand" does not equal "approve"
I understand enough to know I don't care for fundie Islam. The Koran was written in the Dark Ages and it shows.

By the way, if you apply the teachings of the Koran, it is a blasphemy, possibly punishable by a fatwa, to try to "understand" someone else's religion.

You're trying to make some big distinction between Christianity/Bible and Islam/Koran. It doesn't fly. Sure there are plenty of smaller differences, but I'm talking about big similarities. Fundie Christians literally believe that the Bible contains God's words, that it was written by him through human hands. Muslims believe the Koran contains God's word. Almost all religions have their own holy writ.

We're off topic here, anyway. Someone pissed on a book whose teachings are frequently violent and anti-human rights for everyone except Muslim men. Sux that it happened, and it was plain stupid, but...whatever. I got way bigger fish to fry about what has happened in Gitmo, and I feel the lack of a sense of proportion about this is producing Gitmo fatigue outside the cloistered walls of DU.

One more thing. Our outrage seems a tad hypocritical compared to how we love to dis Christian iconography. Just gives the wingnuts ammo.

Again, just my opinions. I could be wrong. :-)

Peace.
