I frankly don't know what to make of all this. Half the time I think it's a pure witch-hunt (especially when it gets into the Satanic abuse stuff) and the other half of the time I'm convinced there are monsters running our world and this is one of the few visible keys to their true nature. Or perhaps the real situation is something very different from either of these . . .

Among other things, there's something that just doesn't pass the smell test about a lot of these stories. They seem to have more to do with the extreme right-wing agenda -- the stuff that's all about Bavarian Illuminati and decadence and nameless horrors -- than with anything even remotely liberal or progressive. As with Moon's Washington Times running the Franklin scandal above the fold, they often seem designed to convince people that there are dark Satanic forces operating everything behind the scenes and to destroy all faith in liberal democracy as a result.

Even beyond that, there's an element of Shock and Awe built into these kinds of stories that I can tell has already plunged many of you on this thread into some very unsettled emotional states. The use of aberrant sexuality is a well-established factor in many mind control techniques -- Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo being two well-known examples. Once your reality has been destabilized in that way, you become easy prey for outside manipulation.

So by all means let's keep looking at these things, but please also reserve judgment and be suspicious of *everything* -- including your own personal emotional reactions. There's no other safe way to approach it.
