13. Bev Harris update: Kerry endorses the wrong solution?
Received this as part of a newsletter from my local verified voting group. It is a wrap up of Bev and Andy's investigations. This really caught my attention:

John Kerry has been floating some trial balloons about electronic verification as a viable alternative. One Diebold document mentions "the political solution" and we had a report that a political figure, three scientists and a handful of reporters were going to get on the electronic verification bandwagon. We contacted the three scientists listed in a handwritten Diebold/VoteHere memo and they indicate they are not on board, though some do qualify this statement.

We would urge you, if you want paper ballots, to begin applying political pressure as you see fit in order to avert cryptography (a "paper trail") replacing voter verified paper ballots ("paper BALLOTS").

From our standpoint, using cryptography is not acceptable either from an auditing standpoint or from a public policy standpoint. Cryptography will not make our elections more transparent, inspectable or accessible. It puts control of elections into the hands of a few computer people and everyone else must simply trust them to get it right.

VoteHere is now also making moves into encryption software for voter registration.
