5. The 'soldier home from Iraq' picking Kerry's pitch out of the dirt
is using imagery to evoke a Kerry administration where the soldiers in Iraq are having to clean up after Kerry can't handle the job of Commander in Chief. He's so not up to the job that they'll have to fly men back from Iraq to help Kerry do even small, ceremonial things, when he's supposed to be helping them. Get it?

Kerry was throwing a knuckleball, btw. It's a real hard pitch for even a professional to throw well, and it sinks.
