First of all, not all Republicans are neo-con fascists.

Some Republicans, whether they are old-school Eisenhower-style Republicans or whatever, believe in lower taxes, protection of property rights, no welfare for the able-bodied, etc. Amazingly, some Democrats believe in the same things! Some Democrats, even ones who call themselves liberal or progressive, believe immigrants should learn to speak English if they want to be "Americans," and that ain't too different from the English-only repukes.

There are Republicans in congress who sometimes, even often, vote with the Dems on certain issues. There are some Republicans -- Collins, Chaffee, and others among them -- who still belong to that old school of the party of Lincoln.

I dunno, maybe you never were a Republican and have the advantage of never having to call your core beliefs into question. But I was born and raised a Republican and I've had to examine and analyze and question the fundamental social beliefs that I was raised with, and I realised I couldn't be a republican /small r sic/ any more. But I also know that not all those who haven't come over into the Light are still steadfast believers in evil. As Al Franken would say, "They don't know, they just don't know." And when someone comes out and paints them all as evil, it's unlikely they ever will.

Are there disruptors and trolls here on DU? Yeah, without a doubt. And you just gotta deal with 'em. Lock their threads or put 'em on ignore.

But don't forget that every once in a while one of those congressional repukes votes with us on some issue, and you damn well better be grateful when they do.

As someone once said, you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Tansy Gold, who is hiding this thread and any more like it.
