We're doing well, but Kerry's negatives are being driven up. This election is going to a referendum on least until people start paying more attention to Kerry's vision (has he got one of those yet? :))

HARRISBURG | Buffeted by revelations of prisoner abuse and the beheading of Philadelphia area businessman Nicholas Berg at the hands of terrorists, public approval in Pennsylvania of the Bush administration's war on Iraq has dropped markedly since March, a new Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll has found.

The poll reflects the opinions of 400 registered voters interviewed May 5-14. Its margin of error is plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

n a hypothetical matchup held today, Democrat John F. Kerry, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, would defeat Bush 48 percent to 43 percent in Pennsylvania. The combatants were dead even two months ago; Bush held a seven percentage point lead last November.

Forty-nine percent of poll respondents did not have a favorable view of the president, but they remained equally pessimistic about Kerry. In fact, the percentage of voters with unfavorable impressions of Kerry rose six percentage points to 45 percent since March.
