And unlike Bryant who eventually gave in to recruiting black athletes because he felt it would help him win, Switzer valued them as people. He continues to be an absolutely beloved figure among black Oklahomans to this day. Switzer is also a big time Dem and donates lots of money to Dem canidates in Oklahoma.

I'd also like to note that Oklahoma recruited its first black player under Bud Wilkinson -- in the mid 50's. Prentice Gautt is now an associate commissioner with the Big 12 conference.
