People who were the last to integrate in their endeavor weren't found to be heroes to diversity. It's in Alabama's interest to hide the racist truth about Bryant. Bryant used the lily white atmosphere of Alabama sports as a successful recruiting too for years, and only stopped when it stopped putting wins on the scoreboard. Alabama won in that period because racist football players around the country who were avoiding integration at other colleges around the country went to Alabama because Alabama football was still lily white.
