76. Air America Report on Drug Company Ads as News
Air America had a report on Saturday about drug companies and health supplement companies preparing fake new stories about their products. In some cases, the pieces had FDA warnings of side effects at the end - which the reporters cut before broadcasting them. The worst was a piece run by WCBS TV news in New York, which is CBS's flagship station. They packaged the news release as if it was a report by their own reporter. Then they said that the health supplement was found to be effective in the New England Journal of Medicine. In fact, the study in the New England Journal found it was ineffective.
