Saudi Denies Compound Clash, Says Guard Fired Shots

May 15, 2004 — RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia said Saturday a guard had fired shots outside a Riyadh compound housing Western expatriates but denied any clash with gunmen and said no arrests had been made.

Security sources said earlier guards had exchanged fire with gunmen on an area of wasteland next to the Kingdom City Compound on the northeastern edge of the Saudi capital and that four people had been detained.
