William F. Boyland Jr., a Democratic assemblyman who was acquitted less than three weeks ago in a bribery trial, was rearrested on Tuesday and charged with soliciting more than $250,000 in bribes in return for carrying out official acts on behalf of the bribe payers, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn said.

The prosecutors accused Mr. Boyland of participating in several schemes, some occurring after his initial arrest in March.

In one instance alleged in the new charges, Mr. Boyland, who comes from one of Brooklyns most prominent political families, was accused of soliciting $7,000 from a person who turned out to be an undercover F.B.I. agent, telling the agent he needed the money to solidify some attorneys, prosecutors said.

Mr. Boyland was expected to be arraigned Tuesday on the new charges in Federal District Court in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn United States attorney, Loretta E. Lynch, whose office announced the new case, said that the extent of the charged corruption is staggering.
