BAGHDAD (AFP) - An increasing number of officers from the disbanded army of former dictator Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) will join the ranks of the new Iraqi armed forces, US administrator Paul Bremer announced.

"More of these officers with honorable records -- from the former army and elsewhere -- will serve in the months ahead as your new army grows," said Bremer.

"Iraqi officers, drawn almost entirely from the many honorable men of the former Iraqi army, already command these forces."
