Clinton, Edwards, Reagan, Newt... the same genes that genes that give them enough ego to go out and ask people for their votes,, the same self confidence it takes to believe in yourself to get out in front of an audience, to really believe you have a solution and can lead are probably directly tied to proclivity to procreate, to thinking 'I can get away with this'.

Absolutely normal evolutionary biology for a dominant (and that would describe the vast majority of men who would even consider running for any office) male to tryst with any even semi willing female. I know of very few hetero trending guys who wouldn't bed any half way decent looking woman; we're dogs, the ones that weren't didn't pass on their genes. Add in the fact that Edwards would be considered good looking by most women and he was pretty wealthy..... no surprise.
The only "faithful" guy is one who can rationally calculate that the thrill is not worth the risk; it has nothing to do with how beautiful the wife (e.g. Kennedy).

Not excusing, just observing. The number of men who will remain faithful to their wives when another woman is available is probably exactly equal to the number of closeted or highly repressed gay ones plus the ones with cold blooded iron willed self discipline. We men are dogs.
