17. Walker says he wasn't lobbied by Gardner on high-speed line
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 11:10 AM by Ellipsis
May 24, 2010 | Verona Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said Monday a railroad executive who has acknowledged making illegal donations did not try to persuade Walker to drop his opposition to a high-speed passenger rail line.

Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co. President and CEO William E. Gardner told state regulators last week he had used railroad money to reimburse employees and friends who donated money to Walkers campaign for governor. It is illegal to give corporate funds to candidates or to hide the identity of donors.

Walker, a Republican, returned the $43,800 from the donors when a Gardners attorney informed him of the situation.

Gardner, who has said he made a mistake, runs a firm that would benefit from a planned high-speed rail line from Milwaukee to Madison because it would upgrade tracks his freight line runs on. Walker said Gardner had talked to him about infrastructure but not the high-speed rail line that Walker has promised to stop if he is elected.

He'll stay far away from him I assure you.
