30. Recent rate increases pushed health insurance costs beyond what my partner and I
could afford. As a result, we were forced to let our policies lapse, and to join the ranks of the uninsured. Because we are a gay couple, we are not permitted to take advantage of family plans that would eek out a bit of savings, and therefore were only allowed to purchase two individual policies at higher cost. While Obama's health insurance reform didn't do anything for us personally, we do realize we are in a minority situation, and if it did manage to insure some that could not be insured before, then it was worth it.
